A total of three people, including two with bullet wounds, have been injured in shooting and stabbing by miscreants at separate times in the capital’s Badda. The incidents took place around Alatunnessa School and in the Merul Badda area last night, Monday.
The injured are Md Alamin, 25, Saiful Islam, 23, and school student Abdullah, 16.
Confirming the matter, Md Selim Hossain, sub-inspector of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost, said all three of the injured received treatment at DMCH on Monday night.
Kawsar Tareq, maternal uncle of the injured school student Abdullah, said several unidentified miscreants stabbed him at around 10pm while he was passing by Alatunnessa School in Badda with a few friends. They have heard that a fight had taken place between two groups in the area some time before that. He believes one group later beat up and stabbed whoever they found on the road.
Abdullah is a student of a local school and an SSC examinee. His home is in the Middle Badda area.
Some time before this, a young man named Alamin was shot in the fight between two groups in the same area. Rasel, the friend who brought him to hospital, said Alamin’s home is behind Alatunnessa School; a bullet hit his right knee while he was walking along the road. He was later rescued and taken to hospital.
Meanwhile, refrigerator mechanic Saiful Islam was shot in Bazar Goli of Merul Badda at around 11pm. He lives at Mondol Bari in Badda’s Bazar Goli.
Saiful’s neighbour Mohon Gazi said two men wearing helmets tried to block his way as he was returning home at night. As Saiful ran away in fear, they opened fire from behind, and a bullet hit his leg. Mohon Gazi later rescued him and took him to hospital.
Badda Police Station duty officer Sub-Inspector Md Abu Zafar said two incidents have taken place in the police station area and legal proceedings over them have been under way since the night. Police officers are working on the incidents and the drive to arrest those involved is continuing.
