Editorial Policy

Editorial Policy and Standards

Last updated: 18 October 2026

This page sets out how The Daily Abhimat decides what to publish, where our information comes from, and what we do when we get something wrong. It is a commitment to our readers, and we expect to be held to it.

Editorial independence

Editorial decisions are made by the editor, Nayeema Hoque. No advertiser, political party, business interest, or other outside party has any say in what we publish or how we report it.

Where we report on an organisation that advertises with us, or on any matter in which the publication has an interest, we disclose that in the article.

Where our information comes from

We publish three kinds of material, and we tell readers which is which.

Original reporting. Work our own journalists produce — interviews we conducted, events we attended, documents we obtained, places we visited. These carry the reporter’s byline and, where relevant, the location they reported from.

Agency and syndicated material. Reports from news agencies including BSS (Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha), published under their credit.

Reports based on other published sources. Where a story was first reported by another outlet and we are carrying it for our readers, we credit the originating publication by name within the article and link to the original where one exists online. We do not present another newsroom’s work as our own.

We consider the third category the weakest kind of journalism, and we are working to publish less of it and more of the first.

Verification

Before publishing we check that claims are attributable to a named source or an identifiable document. Where a significant claim rests on a single source, we say so. Where we cannot verify something but judge it important enough to report, we tell readers what is confirmed and what is not.

We do not publish rumour, and we do not publish unverified claims circulating on social media as though they were established fact.

Bylines and accountability

Articles carry the name of the journalist responsible. Where a report is compiled from agency copy, it is credited to the agency or to the desk rather than given a personal byline. A reader should always be able to tell who stands behind a piece of work.

Use of AI tools

We use software tools, including AI, for routine production work: transcription, translation between Bangla and English, spelling and grammar correction, and formatting.

Editorial judgement — deciding what to cover, what a story means, and whether a claim is true — is made by people. Every article is read by a human editor before publication, and the editor is responsible for its accuracy.

Corrections

We correct errors of fact promptly and visibly.

  • Significant corrections appear as a dated note at the foot of the article, stating what was wrong and what it now says.
  • We do not delete an incorrect article and republish it quietly.
  • Minor typographical fixes are made without a note.

To request a correction, write to dailyabhimat@gmail.com with the article link and the error. We aim to respond within three working days.

Complaints

If you believe we have breached this policy, write to dailyabhimat@gmail.com, marked for the editor’s attention. Set out which part of the policy you believe was breached. We will reply with our conclusion and what we intend to do.

Advertising and sponsored content

Advertising is kept visually distinct from editorial content. Any sponsored or paid-for article is labelled as such at the top, before the reader begins reading. We do not accept payment to publish, suppress, or alter a news report.

Plagiarism

Passing off another person’s work as our own is a dismissible offence in this newsroom. Where we draw on another publication’s reporting, we credit it.
