Naogaon University has received approval to start academic activities in two new departments: English, and Computer Science and Engineering.
The English department will run under the Faculty of Arts, and the Computer Science and Engineering department under the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
University Vice-Chancellor Dr Mohammad Hasanat Ali said the approval was received from the Inspection and Monitoring Section of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh yesterday, Wednesday.
The approval was given in a letter signed by Dr Md Mohibul Ahsan, Additional Director of the Commission’s Public University Management Division.
As conditions for the approval, student admission and academic activities must be run in line with the Naogaon University Act 2023, and admissions at undergraduate level must not exceed 40 students per department in each academic year.
The curriculum for the English and Computer Science and Engineering departments must be prepared and approved by the appropriate authority. The library must keep adequate subject-related books and journals, and the building must have emergency exits, emergency medical support and safe drinking water.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Hasanat Ali told BSS that all steps have already been taken to meet the conditions set by the University Grants Commission for approving the two departments.
Meanwhile, permission has also been given, along with allocation of funds, to hire a microbus for the transport of the university’s teachers and officials and a large bus for students. The vice-chancellor said the tender process for hiring them has already been completed.
Once teaching begins in the two new departments, the university will have 4 departments in total. Teaching is already under way in the Accounting and Law departments.
