Malaysia’s jailed former prime minister Najib Razak has met a condition required to serve the rest of his sentence under house arrest in line with the terms of a royal pardon. His political party said he paid the fine on Friday.
In a statement on Friday, the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) said all procedures for paying the fine were completed at the Kuala Lumpur High Court that morning. The news agency AFP reported this.
The party added that a special fund set up to raise money from the public for Najib Razak has also been formally closed, so there is no longer any need to raise money from the public for this purpose.
The former Malaysian prime minister is serving a prison sentence in a corruption case. Paying the fine was one of the conditions for being allowed to serve the rest of his sentence under house arrest.
