Ragging will not be tolerated in any way under the pretext of teaching manners or etiquette to new students — Naogaon University vice-chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Hasanat Ali has warned. The university administration’s policy on this is ‘zero tolerance’.
The first-semester closing ceremony of the law and accounting departments was held today (Sunday) afternoon. The VC gave this warning in his speech as chief guest there.
The VC said there is no objection to treating juniors to ice cream or cake and making friends with them. But if anyone tries to call them out in the dark of night to teach so-called manners, he himself will go there. If such evidence is found, the studentship will be cancelled outright, and if necessary a case will be filed and the person handed over to the police, he said.
Expressing hope of building the university into a model institution, Dr Hasanat Ali said teachers and students must pay more attention to research. A digital library has been provided here to make research easier, and the administration will also give all kinds of cooperation.
He also outlined infrastructure development plans. By 2027 there are plans to build five main buildings alongside land acquisition, land development and a boundary wall. The VC sought the government’s kind attention so that the project’s DPD is approved quickly.
Pro-vice-chancellor Dr Mohammad Tariqul Islam, Kahaloo upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Maliha Khanam, accounting department teacher Sanjida Kabir, law department teacher Zahidul Islam Sourav and students also spoke at the event. The course closing was then celebrated by cutting a cake.
