Fire breaks out at Cox’s Bazar hotel again, over 300 tourists escape unharmed
A fire broke out on Friday (October 23) afternoon at The Sea Presence, a residential hotel at Sugandha Point in Cox’s Bazar. More than 300 tourists were staying at the hotel when the fire started, and all of them got out safely soon after it broke out.
The fire started around 4pm in the parking area on the hotel’s ground floor. On being informed, a unit of the fire service rushed to the scene. The fire was brought under control after about half an hour of joint efforts by the fire service and the hotel authorities. A generator and several other parts of the parking area were damaged.
Syed Muhammad Morshed Hossain, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence in Cox’s Bazar, told a national media outlet that a unit from the nearest fire station reached the spot quickly after receiving the news and brought the fire under control. He said the fire is believed to have originated from a short circuit in the generator. No one was injured or killed.
Abdul Kader, managing director of The Sea Presence, said the hotel has adequate firefighting arrangements. Thanks to the skill of the staff, no major accident occurred, and the tourists are safe, he added.
Earlier, on October 17 (Saturday), 10 tourists died in a fire at TupTup Resort, a residential establishment in the Inani area of Ukhia.
