The positive trend in remittances continues. In September this year, expatriates sent home $2.745 billion through legal means and banking channels.
At the rate of Tk 122.75 per dollar, the amount is about Tk 33,695 crore in Bangladeshi currency.
This information was given in an updated report published by Bangladesh Bank on Thursday (1 October).
A review of the central bank’s data shows that the remittance inflow increased this September compared to the same period last year. Remittances of $2.686 billion had come to the country in September 2025.
On that basis, remittances in September increased by about 2.2 per cent in the space of a year.
Besides the single month, strong growth in remittances has also been seen in the first quarter of the current fiscal year.
In these three months – July to September – expatriates sent home a total of $8.571 billion.
In the same period of the previous fiscal year, $7.586 billion had been sent. On that basis, remittances have grown by about 13 per cent in the first three months of the current fiscal year.
According to economists, the foreign currency sent by expatriates is playing an important role in tackling various challenges of the country’s macroeconomy. If policy support continues in order to sustain this trend, the foreign exchange reserves may become even stronger.
