Jim Carrey, the popular Hollywood comic actor and star famed for ‘Bruce Almighty’, has married his long-time girlfriend Min Ah. They began a new chapter of life at a strictly private and confidential ceremony in Los Angeles.
The news of the couple’s marriage came just seven months after they appeared in public together at the prestigious Cesar Awards of French cinema. Jim Carrey is now 64 and Min Ah 32; the age gap between the two is 32 years.
According to media reports, they have been in a relationship since 2022.
On 30 September (Wednesday), Jim Carrey’s spokesperson formally confirmed the marriage to People magazine. TMZ later reported that they exchanged wedding vows at a small intimate ceremony in Los Angeles in the presence of a very limited number of guests. Despite being in a relationship for a long time, the couple have always kept their personal life out of the limelight.
The announcement came seven months after they were first seen together on the stage of the Cesar Awards. While speaking on that award ceremony stage, Jim Carrey had introduced Min Ah as his ‘incomparable life partner’. When the actor’s daughter Jane, grandson Jackson and Min Ah stood up from the audience to accept the honour, everyone present greeted them with applause.
In an emotional speech delivered in French, Jim Carrey, expressing love for his family, had said he thanks his wonderful family, daughter Jane and grandson Jackson; he loves them still and will go on loving them all his life. He also thanked his life partner Min Ah and spoke of his love. Finally, he thanked the funniest man he has ever seen, his father Percy Joseph Carrey, who taught him the true value of love, generosity and laughter.
In his personal life, this is Jim Carrey’s third marriage. Earlier, he was married to Melissa Womer from 1987 to 1995, with whom his daughter Jane was born. Then in 1996 he married Lauren Holly, his co-star in the film ‘Dumb and Dumber’, but they separated within a year, in 1997. Besides, he also had romantic relationships at various times with Jenny McCarthy, Renee Zellweger, Linda Ronstadt and January Jones.
In his professional life, Canada-born Jim Carrey began his acting career as a stand-up comedian and gained wide recognition through the television show ‘In Living Color’. According to Deadline, he achieved worldwide stardom overnight in 1994 through three back-to-back superhit films – ‘Ace Ventura: Pet Detective’, ‘The Mask’ and ‘Dumb and Dumber’. Later he received high praise from critics for acting in films such as ‘The Truman Show’, ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’ and ‘Man on the Moon’, and won two Golden Globe awards.
Recently, he was conferred a special honorary award at the 51st Cesar Awards ceremony of the French film arena.
