Yemen’s Houthi rebels have claimed to have carried out an attack with ballistic missiles and drones on an important oil facility near the Saudi capital Riyadh. Qatar-based news outlet Al Jazeera reported this in a report on Sunday.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran has almost given up its plan to build nuclear weapons. He made the claim while talking to journalists on Saturday local time as he was leaving the White House to attend a rally in the state of Ohio.
A report by news agency Anadolu Agency on Sunday said that although preventing Iran from building nuclear weapons is one of the main goals of the United States in the ongoing war with Tehran, Trump is now saying Iran has almost moved away from that plan. However, Tehran has always denied the allegation of building nuclear weapons and has said it will make no compromise on its peaceful nuclear programme.
At this time, Trump also claimed that oil prices are currently falling. Oil prices had been comparatively quite high ever since Israel and the United States attacked Iran on 28 February.
He said, ‘Oil prices are coming down. Oil prices are low at this moment, and they are now lower even compared to the time of the Biden administration. Yet they did nothing to make sure Iran could not build nuclear weapons.’
He then added, ‘Another thing – you know, Iran has almost given up all plans to build nuclear weapons.’
The Al Jazeera report said flames and thick black smoke were seen rising from a Saudi Aramco refinery yesterday, Saturday. Firefighters later worked to bring the fire there under control. However, no statement was immediately available from the Saudi authorities or Aramco on the cause of the fire.
Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree said in a post on social media platform X that the targeted facilities caught fire in the attack. He claimed these attacks were carried out in response to Saudi air strikes in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen, particularly in the capital Sanaa.
