A court has placed three accused, including two police personnel, on a four-day remand after they were arrested on charges of helping ‘Pichchi Raja’ alias Raja escape from a prison van on the way to Kashimpur Central Jail in Gazipur.
Judge Zubayer Rashid of Gazipur Chief Judicial Magistrate Court-4 granted the remand on Tuesday (6 October) morning.
The arrested accused are Pichchi Raja’s sister Taslima, SI Prabir Kumar, in-charge of the escort party, and Nayek Kamal Hossain, driver of the prison van.
Ahsan Ullah Chowdhury, inspector of Gazipur Metropolitan Court, confirmed the matter.
Earlier, on Monday (5 October), the investigation officer of the case, Syed Mizanur Rahman, sent the arrested accused to jail custody through the court with a prayer for a seven-day remand.
It may be mentioned that on the morning of 27 September, 30 accused were taken from Kashimpur Central Jail to a Dhaka court for appearance and hearing of cases. Pichchi Raja escaped from the prison van while they were being taken back to Kashimpur jail at night after the court proceedings. The case filed after the incident says that when the prison van reached the Baimail area of Gazipur at around 8:30pm, SI Pradip Kumar, who was accompanying them, took Pichchi Raja out of the vehicle to use the toilet. Taking the opportunity at that time, Pichchi Raja ran away. The other 29 accused were later sent to the jail.
Meanwhile, after the incident, SI Prabir Kumar, constables Md Zakir Hossain, Md Sakib and Shakil Hossain, who were with the prison van, and prison van driver Nayek Kamal Hossain were temporarily suspended on charges of negligence of duty. At the same time, a three-member committee was formed to investigate the incident.
