A young man named Mohidul Islam, 22, has been injured after being shot by miscreants in the second gate area of Government BL College in Daulatpur, Khulna. The incident took place between 6:00am and 6:30am on Wednesday (7 October).
The critically injured Mohidul was admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital at around 6:45am. He is the son of Shawkat Kha of the Chougachha area in Muksudpur upazila of Gopalganj. He currently lives in the Uttar Kashipur area of Khulna city and works cleaning vehicles at an oil depot.
According to police and local sources, Mohidul went to have breakfast at a hotel in the second gate area of BL College at dawn. A little later, 8 to 10 youths surrounded him. At one stage, they fired shots at him and quickly left the scene. Mohidul sustained a serious injury to his abdomen.
Later, local people rescued him and took him to Khulna Medical College Hospital. Hospital sources said the bullet pierced through his body and exited. He has been admitted to wards 11 and 12 of the hospital’s surgery department. His condition is critical.
Mohidul’s brother Shahidul said, ‘My younger brother has been shot in the second gate area of BL College. But I cannot say right now who shot him and for what reason.’
Daulatpur Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Abdur Razzak said, ‘On receiving the information, police visited the scene. Efforts are under way to learn the reason for the incident and information about the attackers by talking to Mohidul, who is undergoing treatment at the hospital. Efforts are also being made to collect CCTV footage from around the scene. However, details of the incident cannot be given at this moment.’
