National Tobacco-Free Day is being observed across the country today, Thursday, through various programmes. This year’s theme for the day has been set as ‘Ban e-cigarettes/vapes and nicotine products, protect children and youths’.
The information was given in a press release sent by the Bangladesh Anti-Tobacco Alliance (BATA) on Wednesday (7 October).
The organisation said National Tobacco-Free Day has been observed in the country every year since 2011. To mark the day, a sit-in programme has been organised in front of the Abahani playground in Dhanmondi at 9:00am on Thursday. Representatives of 35 organisations working on tobacco control are jointly taking part in the programme organised at the initiative of BATA.
Besides, various programmes including meetings, seminars, human chains and sit-ins have been taken up in different parts of the country at the initiative of anti-tobacco organisations.
