Russia’s military has claimed that it shot down 902 Ukrainian drones in a single night, of which 180 were destroyed around the capital Moscow.
In a statement on Wednesday, Russia’s defence ministry said the drones were destroyed overnight by air defence systems across about 20 regions and the Crimean peninsula annexed by Russia.
The news is from the news agency AFP.
The statement said, ‘Air defence systems destroyed 902 Ukrainian drones last night.’
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said 180 drones were destroyed as they advanced towards the capital. In a post on the social media platform Telegram, he said it was one of the biggest drone attacks targeting Moscow in recent weeks.
Operations at Moscow’s airports were disrupted following the attack.
According to airport authorities, flight movements were suspended at Vnukovo airport for more than eight hours.
On the other hand, the Russian defence ministry further claimed that an overnight ‘massive attack with weapons capable of striking distant targets with precision’ was carried out targeting energy and communications infrastructure in Ukraine’s capital Kyiv and the areas around it as well as in the Kharkiv region.
The ministry claimed that these installations were used for military purposes.
