An allegation has been raised that Azizul Mia, 54, was killed in Sadullapur of Gaibandha after being beaten by his elder brother following a dispute over the boundary of their homestead. Police have detained a woman for questioning in connection with the incident.
Sadullapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) AKM Habibul Islam confirmed the matter on Friday (16 October) evening. Earlier, Azizul died while undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital at around 2:30am on Thursday (15 October) night.
The deceased Azizul Mia and the accused elder brother Jasijal Haque, alias Dipty, are residents of the West Isabpur area of ward No. 8 of Banagram union in Sadullapur upazila.
According to police and local sources, elder brother Jasijal began building a brick cowshed adjoining the boundary of their homestead last Wednesday (14 October). At around 1:00pm, younger brother Azizul objected over the boundary. An altercation broke out between the two brothers over the matter. At one stage, it is alleged that Jasijal struck Azizul on the head with bricks and a bamboo stick used in building the cowshed.
When Azizul fell to the ground seriously injured, relatives and local people rescued him and took him to the Sadullapur Upazila Health Complex. As his condition deteriorated, the doctor there sent him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, where he died during treatment late on Thursday night.
Sadullapur Police Station OC AKM Habibul Islam said the body is in Rangpur and the post-mortem examination will be carried out there. A woman has been brought to the police station for questioning in connection with the incident. The bamboo and bricks used in the killing have been seized as evidence. Police are investigating the incident; a case will be recorded once a written complaint is received.
