State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad has said 10,000 workers of the BNP and its affiliated organisations will serve as volunteers to ensure that Durga Puja in Panchagarh is celebrated in a peaceful and festive atmosphere. He also said that if anyone tries to create disunity or hatch a conspiracy centring the puja, it would be resisted collectively along with the villagers.
He made these remarks at a programme held at the Boda upazila auditorium on Friday afternoon. At the programme, the state minister distributed donation cheques worth Tk 1 crore 65 lakh to 16 temples.
Farhad Hossain Azad said, ‘We have been living together for a long time, and we will maintain that position. If hidden and latent conspirators again try to create disunity among us, all the villagers will collectively resist it.’
The state minister said every volunteer will carry an identity card with a photograph. They will remain beside the puja pavilions and perform duty round the clock in three groups, with 10 volunteers in each group. They will assist with the arrangements for the puja, the aarti, and the security of the idols and pavilions.
Stating that temple committees will not have to spend any money for the volunteers’ duty, State Minister Farhad Hossain Azad further said he would himself take responsibility for their necessary refreshments and other arrangements.
