Actress Madhumita Sarcar’s new film ‘Otobi’ is awaiting release. Amid the busy promotion of the film, she has spoken about her new character, the kind of work she does, her personal life and the audience’s expectations.
The actress said viewers will see a completely different Madhumita in ‘Otobi’. The character is quite different compared with her earlier work, and it has a psychological side.
Madhumita said, ‘The character in Otobi is quite different from my earlier work. There is a psychological side within it, which drew me from the very beginning. That a director imagined me in such a character, was able to see me in it — that is very important to me. Because as an actress I do not want to remain stuck in one place.’
Although she once did a lot of work regularly, Madhumita is now working selectively. Behind this, she spoke of giving time to her personal life.
In her words, ‘When I used to work a lot, there was no time for my personal life. My parents have always been very important to me. Later I realised that our priorities change with age. It is not enough just to work in life; we also have to give time to those we love.’
She now gives considerable importance to the balance between work and personal life. Madhumita said, ‘I love my profession very much, but I do not give any less importance to my personal life either. I think success does not come only in the professional sphere. As a human being, relationships, family and close ones — these are also very important.’
As the story of ‘Otobi’ has mystery and psychological tension, she had to make separate preparations to portray the character. The actress said the psychology of the character was the biggest challenge. She had to bring out the distinctness of the character through the look in her eyes, facial expressions and body language.
