State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit has said the forces defeated in 1971 could not keep faith in Bangladesh’s independence and sovereignty. Likewise, the forces defeated in the 2024 mass uprising of students and people are also taking time to have confidence in Bangladesh’s democracy.
He said the unity of the defeated forces of 1971 and 2024 is nothing new; such unity has been seen again and again in the country’s political history. Some incidents are taking place in different parts of the country with the aim of destabilising a government that is only seven months old. It is that united force that wants to destabilise Bangladesh today.
He said this in his speech as chief guest at an organisational views-exchange meeting organised by district BNP at the Disha Tower auditorium in Kushtia town last Wednesday night.
The state minister said Kushtia is an area bearing the memories of the Liberation War. We must be more alert in the political reality here. BNP is not an organisation like water on a taro leaf. BNP’s political presence on the streets must be made known in Kushtia.
Addressing the party’s leaders and activists, he said BNP’s organisational position must be presented through programmes involving the public in every upazila, municipality and every ward of the municipalities and at the big markets of every union of the upazilas, so that ‘secret and dormant organisations’ cannot unite and destabilise Kushtia.
Grassroots-level leaders of the party also spoke at the meeting. Pointing to the disunity and divisions within the party, they called for overcoming these organisationally.
With Kushtia district BNP convener Kutub Uddin Ahmed in the chair, the meeting was addressed as special guests by Syed Mehedi Ahmed Rumi, a member of the BNP chairman’s advisory council, former member of parliament and valiant freedom fighter, and Babu Jayanta Kumar Kundu, BNP’s assistant organising secretary for Khulna division.
Also present were Kushtia-1 lawmaker Reza Ahmed Bachchu, lawmaker from the reserved women’s seats Farida Yasmin, Kushtia Zila Parishad administrator Principal Sohrab Uddin, a valiant freedom fighter, BNP national executive committee member Barrister Ragib Prova Chowdhury, district BNP member secretary Engineer Zakir Hossain Sarkar and leaders of various units of BNP and its associate bodies.
