A ‘Cleaning Day’ programme has been observed in ward no. 50 of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) with the theme ‘Let us keep our own yard clean, build a clean city’. The event was organised on Saturday (19 September) to involve citizens directly in city cleanliness activities.
Courtesy of Ekota Traders and led by Tarikul Islam Tareq, member of the Jatrabari thana BNP convening committee, both sides of the road from the kitchen market of West Jatrabari to Dholaipar intersection were cleaned. At that time, citizens were encouraged to keep the yards of their own homes and the surrounding environment clean. Besides, a call was made to dump waste at designated places instead of littering here and there, and to be aware in order to prevent dengue.
As part of the programme, cleanliness drives, public awareness processions and leaflet distribution were carried out in different areas. Leaders of Jatrabari thana BNP and its affiliated and associate bodies took part in it spontaneously.
Tarikul Islam Tareq said, ‘The responsibility of building a clean and dengue-free city belongs to all of us. If each of us keeps our own yard clean and does not let water collect in places where Aedes mosquito larvae can breed, controlling dengue this season will be easy.’
