Saudi authorities have beheaded two Bangladeshi nationals convicted of committing an “immoral act” inside a mosque in Makkah. According to the Saudi Ministry of Interior, the sentence was carried out on Wednesday (14 October) in the country’s Makkah region. The two executed are Nazerul Islam Abdul Basir and Siti Akhtar.
In its statement, the Saudi Interior Ministry said security authorities arrested the pair after allegations surfaced that they had been involved in an immoral act inside a mosque, and that formal charges were brought against them once the investigation was completed. The case was later referred to the competent court, which found both of them guilty.
The statement said the court, taking into account the gravity of the offence and the violation of the sanctity of time and place it involved, handed down the death penalty as a discretionary punishment. The verdict was subsequently upheld by the relevant authority, and a royal order was issued for the sentence to be carried out.
The ministry said the death sentences of Nazerul Islam Abdul Basir and Siti Akhtar were carried out in the Makkah region on Wednesday, 14 October 2026.
The Saudi Interior Ministry also stated that the government is determined to ensure security, establish justice and enforce Islamic law against those who violate the sanctity of mosques or engage in such immoral conduct.
The statement closed with a warning that anyone attempting to commit such an offence in future would likewise face legal consequences.
