After a long three decades, trains have again made a stop at the Rajshahi University (RU) railway station. On Saturday night, RUCSU general secretary Salahuddin Ammar turned up at the university station with a band party to celebrate the moment, and also distributed sweets.
Salahuddin Ammar said trains are stopping at this station again after a long 30 years. Securing the demand took a great deal of effort — it was raised in various ways, including movements and protests — and success has finally come. He congratulated all those who stood by them and gave their support. He also urged students not to travel without tickets or misbehave with railway authorities.
It has been learnt that on 23 October, under a decision of the railway authorities, it was settled that the Chilahati–Rajshahi Titumir Express and the Khulna–Rajshahi Sagardari Express would make a one-way stop at the university station on a trial basis. Accordingly, the two trains began stopping there from Saturday night.
According to students, this has eased much of their long-standing hardship. They hope the decision will be made permanent and that the university administration will take effective steps in this regard.
More than a hundred students of the university took part in the celebration.

According to a Risingbd report of July 2026, RUCSU general secretary Salahuddin Ammar said at the time that initially three trains — the Padma, Titumir and Sagardari Express — would make trial night stops at the university station.
Earlier, after students blockaded the railway line, a meeting with railway authorities decided to introduce stops for the late-night Padma, Sagardari and Titumir Express trains, Prothom Alo reported.
