Bangladesh are one step away from gold at the Asia Cup Archery (World Ranking Tournament Stage-2). The country’s archers have secured places in the finals of both the recurve men’s and compound women’s team events in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq. Kazakhstan await them in both finals.
Uzbekistan could not stand up to Bangladesh at all in the recurve men’s team semi-final. The team of Sagor Islam, Abdur Rahman Alif and Abdullah Al Mohammad Rafi won 6-0 in straight set points. Having topped the ranking round, Bangladesh did not have to play the quarter-final. Uzbekistan had reached the semis after beating Pakistan 6-2 in set points in the last eight. In the other semi-final, Kazakhstan beat hosts Iraq 6-2 in set points.
Bangladesh also dominated on the way to the final in the compound women’s team event. Bonna Akter, Sriporna Biswas and Kulsum Akter Moni beat Sri Lanka 233-219 in the semi-final. In this event too, having topped the ranking round, the team got the chance to play the semi-final directly in the first stage.
Here, Bangladesh’s opponents were decided after a fierce contest between Iraq and Kazakhstan. The two teams were level at 217-217 at the end of regulation. Kazakhstan won the shoot-off 29-27 to reach the final.
The recurve men’s team final is on 28 October. The following day, 29 October, the compound women’s team will compete for gold.
