To make digital transactions more popular and customer-friendly, Bangladesh Bank has directed that money from Bangla QR code-based payments be credited instantly to the account of the merchant concerned from 1 October.
The Payment Systems Department-1 of Bangladesh Bank issued a circular in this regard on Thursday (17 September).
The circular said that from 1 October 2026, money from all Bangla QR code-based payments must be paid instantly into the account of the merchant concerned. From the same day, the instructions of the Payment Systems Department’s circular dated 24 November 2025 will be deemed cancelled.
According to the directive, when any payment is made through a Bangla QR code, the money must be credited to the merchant’s account immediately. In addition, banks, mobile financial services (MFS), payment service providers (PSPs) and payment system operators (PSOs) have been asked to keep the Bangla QR payment icon visible at a specific place in their mobile apps.
In this case, the icon must be displayed in line with the logo specified in Bangladesh Bank’s circular dated 6 January 2021. The directive further said that by 31 October, arrangements must be made for completing payments by uploading a Bangla QR image as well, alongside scanning Bangla QR.
Within the same period, the facility of making payments by scanning Bangla QR from mobile apps must be introduced for all savings and current account holders, including card account holders. Bangladesh Bank issued these instructions under section 18(2) of the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2024.
