Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has given basic electrical house wiring training to 33 people with the aim of skill development and self-employment of unemployed youths in the district’s bordering areas.

At the end of the training, certificates were handed over to the participants and those who achieved good results were awarded.

The closing and certificate distribution ceremony of the training was held today, Sunday, in the hall room of Bhajanpur Dwimukhi High School in Tetulia upazila. This training programme had started on 23 August under the overall management of Panchagarh 18 BGB Battalion.

Lieutenant Colonel Taifur Hasan Mahmud, acting sector commander of the Thakurgaon Sector Headquarters and commanding officer of Nilphamari Battalion (56 BGB), was the chief guest at the ceremony. He handed over certificates to the trainees and gave prizes to those who achieved good results.

In his speech as the chief guest, he said the force is determined to implement the BGB director general’s declaration – ‘BGB will be the symbol of security and trust at the border’. As the vigilant sentinel of the border, alongside ensuring the country’s independence, sovereignty and border security, BGB is performing its duty with professionalism in curbing all kinds of cross-border crimes, including smuggling, drugs, human trafficking and arms trafficking.

He said BGB has also been playing a humanitarian role in the security, improvement of living standards and social welfare of border people. As part of this, various social and humanitarian activities are being conducted, including regular relief distribution, rescue and food assistance during disasters, free medical services and distribution of medicines, and provision of educational materials. Alongside this, various technical training is also being given to build the youth as skilled and capable.

The chief guest further said one of the aims of this training is to create self-employment opportunities by enhancing the skills of unemployed youths in the bordering areas. By using the knowledge and skills acquired in the training, they will be able to create work opportunities in their own areas and become self-reliant. Through such initiatives, BGB’s mutual trust and engagement with the border population will be further strengthened.

Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Mohammad Kayes, commanding officer of Panchagarh Battalion (18 BGB), acting quartermaster Assistant Director Md Ziaur Rahman, and trainers, BGB members, teachers and trainees were present at the ceremony.
