Bangladesh have begun their journey in the Under-19 women’s tri-nation series with a win. In the first match of the series, the Bangladesh Under-19 women’s cricket team beat hosts Pakistan by 30 runs on their own soil.
Batting first, Bangladesh scored 117 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. In reply, Pakistan could not make more than 87 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs.
The start of Bangladesh’s innings was not good. Opener Maimuna Nahar returned to the dressing room before any run was added to the team score. The other opener, Achena Jannat, made 6 runs off 6 balls, captain Sadia Islam 12 runs and Bibi Ayesha 7 runs off 18 balls.
However, Bangladesh got a fighting total through small contributions from the batters later on. Sadia Akter made the team’s highest score of an unbeaten 34 runs, while the second-highest 23 runs came from the bat of Nishita Akter Nishi. Besides, Farjana Yasmin made 5, Kumari Shraboni Rani 12 and Adrita Nawshin 6 runs.
For Pakistan, Mahnoor Zeb took three wickets and Rozina Akram two; another bowler got one wicket.
Pakistan had made quite a good start in the chase of the 118-run target. Ravail Farhan made 17 off 12 balls and Komal Khan 29 runs off 39 balls. However, the innings collapsed right after the two openers departed; apart from Zoofishan Ayyaz’s 12 runs, no other batter could reach double figures.
Nishita Akter Nishi was the most successful among Bangladesh’s bowlers – she took two wickets, conceding only 16 runs in 4 overs. Farjana Yasin, Afrin Khan and Adrita Nawshin claimed one wicket each.
In the end, Pakistan’s innings stopped at 87 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs. As a result, the Bangladesh Under-19 women’s team began the tri-nation series with a 30-run win.
