Sheikh Faridul Islam, state minister at the Ministry of Forest and Environment, has remarked that the more revenue collection from Benapole port increases, the more prosperous the country’s national economy will be. He said efforts are under way to increase the capacity of every port in the country, keeping the slogan ‘Bangladesh first’ in front. Talks between the two countries are also continuing to bring balance to import-export trade with India.
He said this at a views-exchange meeting with officials at the Customs House after visiting Benapole port on Monday (21 September) afternoon.
Sabira Nazmul Munni, member of parliament from a reserved women’s seat, and Mofiqul Hasan Tripti, former office secretary of BNP, were present at the meeting.
With Customs Commissioner Faizur Rahman in the chair, the meeting was also attended by Jashore Chamber of Commerce President Mizanur Rahman, Krishak Dal central leader Mohsin Kabir, Sharsha upazila BNP President Hasan Zahir, General Secretary Nuruzzaman Liton, Khairuzzaman Modhu and municipal BNP President Nazim Uddin, among others.
Earlier, the state minister exchanged views with administrative officials, law enforcement agencies, civil society representatives and leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) at the deputy commissioner’s office.
