Instead of spending the allowance he received for office work and tea and snacks, Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (CUCSU) Assistant General Secretary (AGS) Aiyubur Rahman Toufiq has used the money to buy gifts for students. He has given three desktop computers to three of the university’s halls and an electric water filter to another. Toufiq is also joint general secretary of the university unit of Chhatra Dal.
The CUCSU and Chhatra Dal leader confirmed the matter today. He said the items were bought from the allocation provided by the administration for office activities and tea and snacks.
The computers went to Atish Dipankar Srigyan Hall, Shahjalal Hall and Bijoy-24 Hall. The water filter was given to Shaheed Farhad Hossain Hall.
It is learnt that the CUCSU AGS had an allocation of Tk 2.5 lakh for office work and tea and snacks. He decided to spend that money on student welfare instead.
Toufiq said, ‘Although my formal term in office has ended, my efforts to work for students’ welfare will continue.’
The CUCSU election was held on 15 October last year and the results were announced on 16 October. Aiyubur Rahman Toufiq, who won the AGS post, was the only winning candidate nominated by Chhatra Dal. The elected representatives took oath on the 23rd of the same month. Accordingly, the tenure of CUCSU’s 2025 executive committee ended on 22 October.
