Producer Ekta Kapoor has confirmed that a second instalment of the much-talked-about Bollywood film ‘The Dirty Picture’ is in the works. After a long 15 years, the film is on its way back to the big screen with a sequel. However, she has not yet clarified whether Vidya Balan, the lead actress of the first film, will feature in the new one.

‘The Dirty Picture’ was released in 2011. Besides being a box-office success, the film sparked wide debate on women, sexuality, fame and social attitudes. Inspired by the life of South Indian actress Silk Smitha, the film starred Vidya Balan in the lead role. Her performance drew praise, and the film also won her the National Film Award for Best Actress.

Ekta Kapoor was recently speaking about her upcoming film plans on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast. It was there that she brought up ‘The Dirty Picture 2’. Ekta said the idea of making a sequel had been on her mind for a long time. But until now, she had not come across a story that would inspire her to return to the world of the film.

According to Ekta, she has finally found a story she wants to bring to audiences. It is one of the big films in her plans. She is taking the initiative to make the sequel after a gap of nearly 15 years.

The producer, however, did not reveal details of the new film’s story. Curiosity has also grown over whether, like the first instalment, the story of a real person’s life will once again come to the screen.

The first film also starred Naseeruddin Shah, Emraan Hashmi and Tusshar Kapoor alongside Vidya Balan. Vidya’s outstanding performance played a major role in the film gaining its distinct recognition.

Whether Vidya Balan will appear again in the sequel is now one of the biggest questions for audiences. Ekta Kapoor has said the new film will also tell the story of a person’s life. But whose character it is, or who is acting in it, has not yet been announced.

Film lovers are therefore awaiting an official announcement on the film’s story, cast and release date.
