Advocate Nipun Roy Chowdhury, a member of parliament from the reserved women’s seats and general secretary of Dhaka district BNP, has remarked that everyone must work unitedly to protect communal harmony and democracy; at the same time, the rights and security of all people of the country, irrespective of religion and caste, must be ensured.
A Mahalaya and reception programme was held on Saturday (10 October) afternoon at the Sri Sri Rakshakali Mandir and Durga Mandap at Teghoria Dakshinpara in South Keraniganj on the occasion of Sharadiya Durga Puja. She spoke there as the chief guest.
Nipun Roy Chowdhury said it needs to be ensured that people of all religions can live safely in Bangladesh and observe their respective religious rites and rituals without hindrance. Everyone must remain vocal against injustice and unfairness in society.
In her view, standing by the marginalised and poor people of society is everyone’s responsibility. No one should be deprived of the joy of religious festivals because of financial hardship. Initiatives such as the distribution of puja gift items give expression to compassion for people and to social harmony. She also noted that it is necessary to work collectively so that people of all communities get equal opportunities.
She further said a discrimination-free Bangladesh must be built by removing vengeance, hatred and division. It is essential for everyone to remain alert and united so that the country’s independence, democracy and people’s normal life are not harmed by any injustice or conspiracy.
Nipun Roy said, ‘Our religions may differ, but the country is one. We all hold Bangladesh within us. The slogan of us all is: Bangladesh before all.’
At this time she called for maintaining the security of people of all religions and communal harmony in Keraniganj. She also extended greetings to followers of the Sanatan faith on the occasion of Sharadiya Durga Puja.
Present at the programme were Teghoria Union Parishad chairman Haji Lat Mia, Teghoria union BNP convener Khorshed Alam Zamidar, member secretary Samiullah, Dhaka district Krishak Dal convener Jewel Molla and union BNP member Rayhan Mia, along with leaders and activists of the local BNP and its associate bodies.
