BNP Vice-Chairman and Noakhali-3 lawmaker Barkat Ullah Bulu has said preparations have been made, surpassing all past records, for celebrating this year’s Sharadiya Durga Puja of the followers of the Sanatan faith in a safe, peaceful and joyous atmosphere. He said the preparations have been made with the slogan ‘religion is personal, the state is for all’ in view.
A programme marking the advent of the goddess and Shubho Mahalaya was held on Saturday (10 October) at Sri Ram Thakur Ashram in Chaumuhani of Begumganj upazila in Noakhali, organised by the Partha Sarathi Gita Foundation. He made these remarks there in his speech as chief guest.
Barkat Ullah Bulu said there are no such words as minority or majority in Bangladesh; everyone is Bangladeshi. According to him, former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia held this belief during her lifetime and they too believe in that ideal. He mentioned that the current prime minister, Tarique Rahman, has also spoken of the policy of ‘Bangladesh before all’. Bulu therefore remarked that everyone, irrespective of religion and caste, must be taken along in working for the country’s development and for safeguarding its independence and sovereignty.
He further said Sharadiya Durga Puja is the biggest religious festival of the followers of the Sanatan faith. The necessary preparations have been made so that everyone can celebrate the festival joyfully and safely.
Former member of Noakhali district BNP Shamima Barkat Laki, Begumganj upazila BNP convener Kamakhya Chandra Das, Chaumuhani municipal BNP convener Zahir Uddin Harun, central vice-president of the Partha Sarathi Gita Foundation Sri Palash Roy, along with other leaders and followers of the Sanatan faith, were present at the programme.
