‘Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony. The government has taken all kinds of effective steps so that followers of the Hindu faith can celebrate their biggest religious festival, the autumnal Durga Puja, in a completely safe and festive atmosphere.’ Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu said this.
A views-exchange and financial grant programme was held on Saturday with representatives of various puja mandaps of Rajshahi city and followers of the Sanatan faith. He made these remarks while speaking there as the chief guest.
The programme was organised at the Dharmasabha in the city. At it, the land minister distributed a financial grant of Tk 20,000 to each of the city’s total of 85 mandaps.
The minister said the history of Rajshahi has always been a history of communal amity. People of all faiths have been living here together in harmony through the ages.
He requested that care be taken so that no insolvent family is deprived of a share in the joy and so that no social discrimination occurs on the days of the puja.
The minister said, ‘No disorder of any kind will be tolerated in our beloved city of Rajshahi. It is you who have upheld our tradition. Timely delivery of the grants and the necessary government allocations has been ensured on behalf of the government.’
Rajshahi district BNP member secretary Biswanath Sarkar and representatives of the Dharmasabha and various puja mandap committees were also present at the meeting.
