Teenage girl abducted from mother at court premises, accused arrested

In connection with the incident of a teenage girl being forcibly taken away from her mother at the court premises in Noakhali, a crack team of CPC-3 of the Special Response Battalion (SRB-11) has conducted a drive, rescued the girl and arrested accused Abdur Rahim Rony (23).

Mithun Kumar Kundu, senior assistant superintendent of police and company commander of CPC-3 of SRB-11, confirmed the matter in a press release on Tuesday (6 October) morning.

Earlier, at 8:35pm on Monday, acting on a tip-off, a joint operational team of SRB-11, CPC-3, Noakhali and SRB-7, CPSC, Chattogram arrested accused Abul Hossain Rony (23) from the rented house of a man named Yusuf in the Colony area beside Bayezid Bostami Police Station in Chattogram city.

The arrested Rony is the son of Salauddin of Bached’s house in Jagadananda village of Dhansiri union in Kabirhat upazila of Noakhali.

In the press release, Mithun Kumar Kundu further said the victim in the case is a class eight student of a local school. Accused Abul Hossain Rony, with the help of the other accused, abducted the victim on her way to school and took her to an unknown location.

The plaintiff filed a case with the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, Noakhali on 16 July. The court then ordered the District Detective Branch, Noakhali to rescue the victim, Jannatul Mawa Mukta (13). The accused, staying behind the scenes, produced the victim before the court, and the court sent her to the Victim Support Centre, Chattogram.

Then, on 13 September, the court gave the victim into the plaintiff’s custody. As the plaintiff, having taken custody of the victim, was getting into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw from the court, accused Rony and the other accused surrounded them and tried to snatch the victim away. When the plaintiff resisted, the accused punched her and threw her onto the road. When the plaintiff tried to take the victim into her care, the accused grabbed her by the throat and tried to kill her, the complaint says.

At one stage, the accused abducted the victim in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and on motorcycles and took her to an unknown location. Later, the victim’s mother filed a case with Sudharam Police Station.

After the case was recorded, SRB-11, CPC-3, Noakhali stepped up intelligence surveillance with the aim of arresting the accused involved in the incident and rescuing the victim. Later, the joint operational team arrested the accused from the Colony area beside Bayezid Bostami Police Station in Chattogram city.
