BNP Vice Chairman Abdul Awal Mintoo has called for maintaining unity in the greater interest of the party and the people even if there are differences of opinion among leaders and activists.
He made this call at a views-exchange meeting with BNP leaders and activists at the Sonagazi municipality auditorium in Feni on Wednesday (16 September) afternoon.
Abdul Awal Mintoo said, ‘BNP is a large political party. It is natural for there to be differences of opinion and preference within the party. However, leaders and activists must remain united in the greater interest of the party and the people.’
He stressed further strengthening the party’s organisational activities at the local level, increasing communication among leaders and activists and maintaining engagement with ordinary people.
With upazila BNP Convener Joynal Abedin Bablu in the chair, the meeting was conducted by Member Secretary Syed Alam Bhuiyan. Leaders and activists of the upazila, municipality and affiliated and associate organisations took part in it.
The local political situation, the party’s organisational activities and the role of leaders and activists at the grassroots were discussed at the meeting. Leaders and activists highlighted the party’s organisational structure at the upazila and union levels, mutual coordination and various problems created by the absence of committees for a long time.
They said one senior joint convener of the three-member convening committee of upazila BNP has been staying away from party activities for a long time. As there is no full-fledged committee, complications are arising in conducting organisational work.
The leaders and activists further said an organisational vacuum has been created at the union level too, as new committees have not yet been formed after the committees of all union BNP units in the upazila were dissolved. They also demanded that the party’s long-time dedicated, active and field-level leaders and activists be recognised in the committees in consideration of their competence and organisational role.
Former organising secretary of upazila BNP Abul Kalam Azad, upazila BNP leader and former chairman of Bogadana Union Parishad Habib Ullah Parvez, Feni district BNP member Rabiul Haque Shimul, municipal BNP Convener Manjur Hossain Babar and Member Secretary Nizam Uddin spoke at the meeting.
Former chairman of Mangalkandi Union Parishad Daudul Islam Minar, Feni district Mohila Dal Senior Vice President Jannatul Ferdous Mita, upazila Jubo Dal Convener Khurshid Alam Bhuiyan, upazila Mohila Dal Convener Kamrun Nahar Kona and municipal Jubo Dal Convener Iqbal Hossain, among others, also spoke.
