National University will develop 900 master trainers to make teaching of the ‘Applied ICT’ course in the second year of honours at its affiliated colleges more effective. Ninety core trainers will be developed to train them.

Preparations are being made to begin training activities at the field level after scrutiny of the curriculum and training materials. A coordination meeting on the matter was held on Monday (28 September) at National University’s own campus in Gazipur. The university’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Ali Jinnah presided over the meeting.

The meeting discussed the plan for the training activities, the training calendar and schedule, selection of trainers, the budget, determination of training areas and monitoring of the progress of the activities. There is a plan to conduct the training in a blended method; core and master trainers will have to take part in five days of in-person training after completing an online course.

According to National University sources, 90 core trainers and 840 master trainers have already been developed for the first year. In addition, around 2,000 teachers have been trained through in-house training, and there is a plan to bring another 2,500 teachers under training in phases.

The meeting also discussed the probable budget for in-house training, the final list of core and master trainers and the selection of teachers to take part in the training. The matter of determining different zones and mapping areas to ease the training activities also received importance.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Ali Jinnah said emphasis is being placed on teacher training to make teaching of the ‘Applied ICT’ course more effective, and the training will be spread to the college level in phases. Through this, teachers will become more skilled in technology-based teaching and students will get the opportunity to learn the practical aspects of Applied ICT in the classroom.

National University Registrar Molla Mahfuz Al-Hossain, deans of the relevant faculties and centres, and university officials including the director of the teacher training office were present at the meeting.
