Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain has said 10 dialysis machines each will be installed at the country’s district-level hospitals and 50 each at medical college hospitals.
He said this at a seminar organised on the occasion of ‘World Heart Day’ at the National Heart Foundation in the capital on Wednesday (30 September).
Commenting that no significant steps were taken for the development of the medical sector during the fascist government’s tenure, the health minister said even the machines that were brought then are unusable; only money was spent.
He said that for the first time, the health sector has been given importance and allocated the highest budget. An initiative has been taken to upgrade every upazila health complex in the country from 50 to 151 beds, so that the pressure of patients on the hospitals in the capital eases somewhat.
Experts at the seminar said that most of the time people neglect chest pain, thinking it is gas pain. But a doctor’s advice should be sought for any kind of chest pain. They advised building a habit of regular exercise while avoiding smoking, tobacco, excess salt and processed food to reduce the risk of heart disease.
