Fifty-five participants of the 22nd batch of the Advanced Certificate in Business Administration (ACBA) course of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) of Dhaka University have received certificates. The certificates were handed over to them at a ceremony at the university’s Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on Friday evening. The course runs for six months; professionals from various sectors receive training in management and business administration in it.
The chief guest was Professor Dr Abdur Rab, former director of IBA and vice-chancellor of the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT). He stressed leadership skills, integrity and continuous self-improvement for achieving success in professional life. His call to the participants was that they apply the knowledge gained in the course in their respective workplaces and play an effective role in the development of their organisations.
IBA Director Professor Dr Abu Yousuf Md Abdullah presided.
Abedur Rahman Sikder, managing director of Sammilito Islami Bank PLC and an alumnus of the second batch of ACBA, spoke as the guest of honour. Besides highlighting the long-term importance of executive education programmes, he said continuous learning is necessary to enhance professional skills.
ACBA programme moderator Professor Dr Md Mohiuddin and co-moderator Professor Dr Md Iftekharul Amin were present at the ceremony. Md Arafat Hossain, an engineer at the Department of Shipping, shared his experience on behalf of the participants. Professor Dr Md Mohiuddin praised the dedication and active participation the participants had shown throughout the course.
According to the organisers, the course is run under IBA’s Management Development Programme (MDP) and applying for it requires a minimum of five years of professional experience. The average professional experience of the participants of the 22nd batch, however, was more than 13 years.
More than 350 people had applied in November and December 2025; after scrutiny, 60 were selected from among them. Of these, 55 have earned certificates by successfully completing the course’s seven modules. The participants were assessed through assignments, quizzes, case solutions and examinations in each module. At least 70 per cent attendance was also mandatory for completing the course.
IBA sources said the number of alumni of the ACBA course is currently more than one thousand. Many of them are serving in various organisations as chief executive officers (CEOs), managing directors (MDs), senior officers of the armed forces and at the top levels of the civil administration. The start of activities of the 24th batch of ACBA was also announced at the ceremony. The ceremony ended with a dinner after the distribution of certificates.
