Bishwasahitya Bhaban has published an edited book on former prime minister and uncompromising leader Begum Khaleda Zia. The book is titled ‘Khaleda Zia: Ek Mrityunjoyee Mohiyoshi’.
The book’s cover was unveiled on Wednesday evening at the Music and Dance Centre auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The launch event was organised by ‘Antar Kotha, Sangskriti Charcha O Bikash Kendra’. Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury was present as chief guest.
Special guests were Md Mostafizur Rahman, former president of the central committee of Swechchhasebak Dal; Haider Ali Lelin, member of the BNP central executive committee; AKM Hafizullah Khan Liton, director general of the Prime Minister’s Office; and Md Harun-Or-Rashid, director general (additional charge) of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The event was presided over by Professor Md Lutfor Rahman, vice-chancellor of Dhaka Central University.
In his speech as chief guest, Nitai Roy Chowdhury said Khaleda Zia’s name and struggle have merged into one. Wherever there is struggle, there is her name. No other leader of such stature in democratic struggle can be found anywhere in the world. That is why she will live on for generation after generation.
The cultural affairs minister further said that even while standing at death’s door after the success of the anti-fascist movement, Khaleda Zia said, ‘Not violence, not hatred; save the country, save the people.’ Such a leader and patriot is rarely seen.
He also said at the event that a special initiative would be taken to keep the book in various public libraries across the country.
At the outset, the book’s editor, Md Arifur Rahman, delivered the welcome speech. In his words, Begum Khaleda Zia means a leader who never compromised in the democratic fight against injustice. People will remember her contribution to the struggle to establish democracy.
