After TV dramas and web films, Syed Shakil moves to the big screen with Sariful Razz as hero

Syed Shakil, who has been making TV dramas for a long time, is now venturing into full-length feature film-making. He has previously made two web films, ‘Chhayabaji’ and ‘UNO Sir’. He has chosen Sariful Razz as the hero of his first film. The film-maker announced the film on Tuesday night by sharing a photo with Razz on social media.
Although he revealed the hero’s name, Shakil did not want to disclose the name of the film or the other artistes just yet. He told Ajker Patrika that he will make a formal announcement at a press conference next week. The name of the film will be revealed then, and the heroine will also be introduced.
Syed Shakil has not yet revealed details of the story. He only said he wants to show a story on the big screen that the whole family can enjoy together. In his words, ‘There was a time in our country when whole families watched films together. These were called social films. I want to make that kind of emotional social film that will move the audience.’
Syed Shakil added, ‘I have been preparing to make a film for a long time. But the number of cinema halls in our country is falling day by day. Films have now become dependent on cineplexes. Recently, the audience for Bangla films at cineplexes has been growing. This is giving me the courage to make a film. Besides, a market for our films is developing abroad. Discussions are also under way about releasing my film in cinemas abroad. There are plans to send it to various festivals as well. We have talked to digital platforms. In short, all kinds of plans and preparations are being made to take the film to the audience. I want to present the film as part of my cultural tourism.’
The new film is being produced by Sohana Sadi, Snigdha Sadi and Sarhan Shahriar Sadi Shimanto under the banner of Revenge Films Limited. The film-maker said he wants to start shooting in December or January and finish filming in one continuous stretch. Syed Shakil also said plans are under way to release the film in cinemas during Eid-ul-Azha next year.
Meanwhile, production house Buriganga Talkies has announced the release of Sariful Razz’s ‘Kanabhula Paradox’ during Eid-ul-Azha next year as well. The film, based on Mohaiminul Islam Bappy’s novel ‘Kanabhulo Paradox’, will be directed by Ayman Hasib Swadhin and Susmoy Sarkar. Sabila Nur will star opposite Razz in this horror-romantic film. Shooting of Kanabhula Paradox is expected to begin early next year.

According to a report by The Daily Star Bangla on 19 February 2024, the web film ‘UNO Sir’, directed by Syed Shakil, starred Ziaul Faruq Apurba in the lead role, along with Tanjim Saiara Totini and Intekhab Dinar. The film-maker claimed that, to his knowledge, it was the country’s first work centred on an administration cadre character.
