After yesterday, the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has raised gold prices in the domestic market again today. Under the new decision, the price of one bhori of 22-carat gold has been set at Tk 2,24,632. Yesterday, the price was Tk 2,23,074.
The new rates took effect from 10am today, Thursday (29 October).
As the price of tejabi (pure) gold has gone up, BAJUS set new prices for gold and silver jewellery after considering the overall situation. The decision came unanimously from a meeting of the BAJUS Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring at 9am today.
Under the new rates, 22-carat gold jewellery costs Tk 19,215 per gram. Taking one bhori as 11.664 grams, the price per bhori stands at Tk 2,24,632.
21-carat gold costs Tk 18,400 per gram and Tk 2,14,677 per bhori. 18-carat gold costs Tk 15,800 per gram, or Tk 1,84,471 per bhori. Gold jewellery made by the traditional method costs Tk 12,910 per gram and Tk 1,50,516 per bhori.
The price of silver jewellery has also been reset. 22-carat silver costs Tk 330 per gram, which works out at Tk 3,849 per bhori.
21-carat silver costs Tk 315 per gram and Tk 3,674 per bhori. 18-carat silver costs Tk 270 per gram and Tk 3,149 per bhori. And silver jewellery made by the traditional method costs Tk 205 per gram and Tk 2,391 per bhori.
BAJUS said making charges will be added according to the design of the jewellery. Since VAT is included in the selling price of gold and silver jewellery, VAT cannot be charged separately from buyers.
When exchanging jewellery, 12 per cent will be deducted after excluding making charges and the price of stones, and 18 per cent in the case of purchase. VAT cannot be deducted separately in an exchange or purchase.
Dr Dewan Aminul Islam Shaheen, chairman of the BAJUS Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring, said these prices will remain in effect at all jewellery businesses in the country until further decision.
