Police have recovered the body of former Air Force flight lieutenant KM Tahsif from the Turag river. The body was pulled out of the river near Rajabari Ghat at 4:30pm yesterday (Wednesday).
Claiming that Tahsif’s death was a murder, his cousin Moshfeka Jahan posted a status on the social media platform Facebook.
In the status, Moshfeka Jahan alleged that Tahsif had to endure mental torment day after day for sharing a video of former Awami League government prime minister Sheikh Hasina leaving the country. Tahsif had told her that intelligence personnel regularly followed him even after he was sent into retirement.
Moshfeka Jahan wrote, ‘My brother has been murdered, what was his fault? Sharing the video of Hasina fleeing? He did not even film it himself, he shared it as a citizen. One of his colleagues did. He was sent into retirement, and even after tormenting him mentally day after day they were not satisfied. They had to kill him.’
Venting her anger at those responsible for Tahsif’s death, she asked whether her brother had to meet such a fate because he was a patriot.
She alleged that the healthy Tahsif was called out of his home and killed. Pointing out that her aunt was on the streets during the July movement, Moshfeka asked what her aunt’s crime had been.
In grief and anger, she wrote, ‘We never got to talk again…..!’
Around 4:30pm on Wednesday, locals saw a body floating in the Turag river near Rajabari Ghat and called 999. On information, officials and personnel of the Tongi river police outpost, Gazipur, went to the spot, recovered the body and prepared an inquest report. Tahsif was later identified from an iPhone found with the body.
