Marginalised and poor families in Joypurhat have been given heifers free of charge. The assistance was funded by the Bangladesh NGO Foundation and implemented by the North Bengal Rural Development Society (NRDS). This was the third phase of distribution under a special allocation.
The distribution ceremony was held at the NRDS conference room on Wednesday morning (4 November). It was presided over by the organisation’s executive director, Anisur Rahman Biton. Joypurhat Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mahmudul Hasan spoke as chief guest.
Joypurhat Press Club general secretary Shamim Kadir, pharmacist Ruhul Quddus Saju and branch manager Sohel Ahmed spoke as special guests. Other officials of the organisation also spoke.
After the ceremony, the livestock (heifers) were handed over to the marginalised and poor families. The speakers expressed hope that the cattle would play an important role in making the families economically self-reliant.
