Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed that training programmes running under different ministries be brought under one umbrella and arrangements be made for providing training and certificates under a uniform syllabus.
He gave this directive while presiding over the third meeting of the governing body of the National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon at 10:00am on Saturday.
The prime minister said the NSDA is playing an important role in creating skilled human resources in line with the demands of the local and overseas labour markets. The organisation is also an important platform for increasing the demand for Bangladesh’s skilled manpower in the international labour market.
He mentioned that skills development of the youth is now the demand of the time. Although different ministries run various training programmes, in many cases these training courses and certificates cannot play an effective role because of a lack of coordination. As a result, the young generation is not getting the expected recognition at home and abroad on the strength of these certificates.
The prime minister said the governing body of the NSDA must, within a short time, prepare the necessary policy through a small committee and bring the skills development and training activities of all ministries under a coordinated framework. He laid special emphasis on providing training and certificates through a uniform syllabus.
In his view, if a uniform training and certification system of international standard is introduced, the skills of the youth will increase, and their acceptability and recognition in the local and international labour markets will also grow.
