An initiative will be taken to install the necessary modern equipment at the Infertility Centre of Dhaka Medical College to ensure modern treatment of infertility in the country, Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain has said.
He said the prime minister has given directives to ensure world-class treatment in the country’s hospitals. The world’s most modern technology will be brought to the country for advanced treatment.
He said these things in his speech as chief guest at a scientific seminar organised on the occasion of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Awareness Month at the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Unit of Dhaka Medical College this morning.
Sakhawat Hossain said the rate of infertility in the country is rising because of polycystic ovary syndrome, a hormonal and metabolic problem of women.
He further said the opportunity to conceive has been created through modern treatment in various countries of the world. So contact has already been made to bring the technology of developed countries, including China, to the country quickly.
Stressing training to create skilled doctors in infertility treatment, the health minister said infertility treatment is also an important part of healthcare. If a couple cannot have a child, they often have to face social taunts and harassment. If this problem can be solved through treatment, there is no reason to lag behind in this area.
Emphasising the need to reduce patients’ tendency to go abroad for infertility treatment, he said many patients go to India and Thailand for treatment even though the country’s talented doctors are capable. As a result, a huge amount of foreign currency goes out of the country.
Sakhawat Hossain further said that to build confidence that treatment of the same standard as abroad is possible in the country, awareness activities at district and village level will be strengthened alongside raising public awareness of infertility treatment.
The health minister said women suffering from infertility problems will be encouraged to take treatment in the country. ‘If we succeed even in 80 percent of cases, that is a big success for the country.’
Praising the doctors engaged in infertility treatment, he said he would make his utmost effort to implement the commitments if he gets their cooperation.
