Nana Patekar, a powerful actor of Indian cinema, has died. He breathed his last after suffering a heart attack at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa, early on Thursday. He was 75. The news was reported by NDTV.

It is learnt that Nana Patekar suffered a heart attack at his residence early in the morning. He was quickly taken to a local hospital. Doctors there tried to save him for around 45 minutes. But in the end he did not respond. Doctors declared him dead at 5:20am.

With the death of Nana Patekar, a bright chapter of Indian cinema seems to have come to an abrupt end. He left a distinctive mark of his acting in films of both languages, Hindi and Marathi. His intense expressions, his own style of delivering dialogue and his ability to get deep inside a character set him apart from others.

Nana Patekar began his journey on the big screen with the film ‘Gaman’ in 1978. He then cemented his position by acting in numerous films including ‘Parinda’, ‘Krantiveer’, ‘Agni Sakshi’, ‘Wajood’, ‘Natsamrat’, ‘Ab Tak Chhappan’ and ‘Apaharan’. He received the National Film Award three times in recognition of his acting.

However, to a generation of viewers, Nana Patekar is even more memorable for the character of Uday Shetty in the film ‘Welcome’. His dialogue, gestures and acting in that 2007 film gained huge popularity among audiences. He later returned in the same role in ‘Welcome Back’ too.

Nana Patekar did not stop at acting alone. He also showed his skill in filmmaking and writing. In his long career, he played such characters as have earned a permanent place in the hearts of Indian cinema audiences.

The Indian film arena is stunned with grief at the news of his demise. To colleagues, fans and film lovers, Nana Patekar’s death is not merely the departure of an actor, but also the end of a distinctive style of acting on screen.
