It has been learnt from case sources that during the anti-discrimination student movement, at about 12:00pm on 5 August, protesters were taking up a peaceful position on the road west of the BNS Centre on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway under Uttara West police station. The case’s investigating officer, SI Md Sumon Mia of Uttara West police station, produced the accused Dilip Kumar before the court and sought a 10-day remand in the interest of a proper investigation of the case, collecting information on the other accused and recovering the weapons used. On the other hand, the defence lawyer sought bail, seeking cancellation of the remand. After both sides presented their arguments and the hearing ended, the judge ordered a four-day remand.
It may be mentioned that the remand application stated that the accused Dilip Kumar Agarwala is a member of the Awami League’s central industry and commerce sub-committee and a former parliamentary candidate for the Chuadanga-1 seat.
