Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized Indian cattle and liquor from the Chunarughat border in the district. The market value of the seized cattle and liquor is about Tk 8.5 lakh, the BGB said.
Lt Col Tanzilur Rahman, commanding officer of Habiganj BGB, confirmed the matter in a press release sent to the media at 11am today, Monday.
The BGB said a patrol team from Habiganj BGB’s Chimtibil BOP in Chunarughat upazila conducted a special anti-smuggling drive yesterday, Sunday afternoon, in the Amu tea garden area inside Bangladesh on the border under Chunarughat upazila. At the time, nine Indian cattle were seized from the area in an ownerless state. The estimated seizure value of the seized cattle is Tk 6.30 lakh.
Meanwhile, 66 bottles of Indian liquor, with a market value of about Tk 1 lakh, were recovered in a separate drive at the same time.
The BGB further said such drives will continue to prevent smuggling and the entry of narcotics through the border in order to protect the country’s economy and public safety. At the same time, besides further strengthening intelligence surveillance in the border areas, it has called for the active cooperation of people living along the border and for raising social awareness to prevent smuggling.
