Fertiliser production at Jamuna Fertiliser Factory in Sarishabari of Jamalpur has stopped again due to a mechanical fault just two days after it resumed.
A mechanical fault developed in the factory’s boiler plant on Wednesday night. The factory authorities then shut down fertiliser production.
Delwar Hossain, deputy general manager (administration) of Jamuna Fertiliser Factory, said work is under way to repair the fault in the boiler plant. Production may start within two days after the fault is fixed.
It may be mentioned that Jamuna Fertiliser Factory remained closed for 23 months at a stretch from January 2024 to November 2025 due to the gas crisis and various mechanical faults. Production later started when gas pressure increased. However, the factory’s production stopped again from 12 February this year due to the gas crisis.
After the factory, which has a capacity to produce 1,700 tonnes of urea fertiliser a day, had remained closed for a long time, a gas connection was provided there at noon on 20 September. After completing all preparations, the factory authorities had started fertiliser production again in the early hours of last Monday.
