A court has fixed 5 November as the new date for submission of the investigation report in the case filed on the charge of planned murder over the death of film hero Mohammad Shahriar Emon alias Salman Shah. There are 11 accused in the case, among them Salman’s wife Samira Haque, Samira’s mother Latifa Haque Leo alias Lucy and film villain Ashraful Haque Don. Tuesday (29 September) had been fixed as the date for submission of the report.
However, the investigation officer of the case, CID police Inspector Ziaul Morshed, could not submit any report to the court on the day. For this reason, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana set the new date. Abid Hasan, the lawyer for Salman Shah’s side, confirmed the matter.
Earlier, on 20 May, the investigation officer filed an application seeking permission to exhume the film hero’s body from the grave in the presence of an executive magistrate in order to uncover the real cause of the killing.
Later, on 24 May, permission was given to exhume the body, prepare an inquest report and complete a post-mortem examination. The plaintiff’s side then filed an application seeking cancellation of that order, which the court placed on record. On 22 June an executive magistrate was appointed for the process of exhuming the remains to determine the real cause of death.
Pinky Saha, additional district magistrate of the Sylhet District Magistrate’s office, issued an office order in this regard. A copy of that order was recently sent to the Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka, where it was placed on record.
It may be noted that film hero Chowdhury Mohammad Shahriar Emon alias Salman Shah died on 6 September 1996. At that time his father, the late Komoruddin Ahmad Chowdhury, had filed an unnatural death case. Later, on 24 July 1997, alleging that his son had been murdered, he applied for the case to be converted into a murder case.
