The body of a battery-run auto-rickshaw driver named Md Shahadat Hossain (38) has been recovered two days after he went missing from Khokshabari in Sirajganj Sadar upazila.
Sadar thana police recovered the body from a crop field in the Balidaha area of Chhongachha union in Sadar upazila at around 5:30pm on Sunday.
The deceased Shahadat Hossain was a resident of Chilgachha village in Ratankandi union of Sadar upazila. He used to live with his family in the area of his in-laws’ house at Khokshabari village.
Md Rakibul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sirajganj Sadar thana, said Shahadat left home with the auto-rickshaw towards the evening last Friday. He had been missing since then, and his mobile phone was also found switched off. Failing to trace him even after searching at various places, a general diary (GD) was filed with Sadar thana on behalf of the family on Saturday.
On Sunday afternoon, locals saw Shahadat’s body lying in a crop field of an open ground in the Balidaha area beside Chhongachha Technical Institute. They later informed police and police went to the spot and recovered the body.
It is assumed that miscreants fled with his auto-rickshaw after killing Shahadat by strangulation. A case has been filed in this incident.
