Candidates deprived of appointment to the post of assistant teacher at government primary schools have started a sit-in programme at Shahbagh in the capital, as they have not received appointment letters even after being finally recommended.
After 11:00am on Sunday (27 September), they brought out a procession from in front of the Central Library of Dhaka University and took position on the road in front of Shahbagh Police Station. The protesters are observing the programme peacefully, demanding that appointment letters be issued quickly.
Earlier, these finally recommended candidates had been gathering in front of the Central Library of Dhaka University since the morning. They claim that hundreds of candidates in different districts have still not received appointment letters even after getting the final recommendation. This has created anxiety and uncertainty among them.
The issuing of appointment letters to those finally recommended in the recruitment of assistant teachers for government primary schools began on 24 September. However, the appointment letters of many candidates in different districts have not yet been issued.
A platform named ‘Finally Recommended Primary Assistant Teachers-2025’ claims that, according to the latest verification-related information on the 14,384 finally selected candidates, the appointment letters of more than 1,500 candidates have not been issued. ‘Central Panel Primary 2025’ has made the same allegation. The platform has raised a five-point demand, including making public a clear explanation regarding the candidates left out. These demands were raised in a press release last Friday (25 September).
Earlier, on 9 January, the written examination for the recruitment of assistant teachers for government primary schools was held simultaneously in 61 districts of the country. In that examination, held excluding the three hill districts, 69,265 candidates passed and were selected for the viva voce. Later, on 8 February, the final result of Assistant Teacher Recruitment-2025 was published, in which 14,384 people were finally selected for appointment. At the same time, district-wise lists of the successful candidates were also published.
