India Rose Hemsworth, daughter of Hollywood star Chris Hemsworth, has set a striking record. Recently, as the only female contestant, she won a thrilling bull riding competition, leaving her male rivals behind.
Father Chris Hemsworth has given an emotional and proud message on social media at this success of his daughter. However, the actor has faced harsh criticism from a large section of netizens for spreading the scene of the win online and over allegations of cruelty to animals in this sport.
The 42-year-old actor, famed for ‘Thor’, posted two videos of his daughter on Instagram on Wednesday. In the video it is seen that India keeps a firm grip on the back of the furious bull even as it bucks at great speed inside the dusty ring. A light-hearted conversation between father and daughter just before she entered the competition is also in the video. Praising his daughter’s courage in the caption, Chris wrote that his daughter is truly incredibly brave and unstoppable (savage); despite being the only girl in the entire competition she returned home with the trophy, which is a moment of great pride for a father.
Opposing reactions have emerged in the online world since the post was published. Although many, including fans and admirers, praised India’s bravery, another section sees the incident as violence towards animals. One angry user wrote in the comment section that he feels pain for the helpless bull and such torture of animals in the name of entertainment is not supportable. Another user, highlighting the cruel side of this traditional sport, asked whether this is not that so-called ‘wonderful’ tradition where the bull’s testicles are tied with a rope and pulled tighter every time it leaps into the air; he expressed the hope that nothing like that was done here. Another person directly requested that such a merciless sport not be promoted. A Marvel fan, meanwhile, commented sarcastically that the actor should rather now think about ways to defeat Doctor Doom.
Chris Hemsworth and Spanish actress-model Elsa Pataky, known as a happy couple of Hollywood, tied the knot in December 2010. This year their married life has completed more than 15 years. The couple have three children – eldest daughter India Rose, born in 2012, and twin sons Sasha and Tristan, born in 2014.
India Rose, the eldest child of the family, has already stepped onto the silver screen with her father too; viewers saw a glimpse of her in Marvel’s film ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’. On becoming a father, Chris has said at various times that the priorities of his life changed completely after the arrival of children and he now gives the most importance to spending time with family.
The star is passing a busy time in acting too. His return in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, the upcoming instalment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is all but certain, which indicates his journey as ‘Thor’ is not over yet. Besides, he is also returning in the third instalment of the action franchise ‘Extraction’ – pairing up with Idris Elba and Golshifteh Farahani, he is preparing to give viewers a gripping experience in a new dangerous mission.
